Many elderly people enjoyed a good standard of living in the workhouse
You were not allowed outside the workhouse walls and children had to play in a small courtyard
Everyone slept in a large dormitory with other people of your group
    Victorian washing was very primitive

Life in a workhouse was very hard

Beds in Victorian days were not very comfortable
Everyone had to wear the workhouse uniform
Workhouses were required to provide at least 3 hours schooling for workhouse children

There were no home comforts like today

Pupils were punished in Victorian days if they did not work hard
One of the jobs men had to do was unpick old rope
